Grant MacEwan 1902-2000:
Our namesake
Although he was born in Manitoba, J. W. Grant MacEwan left an indelible mark on Alberta, and a particular legacy in the city of Calgary.
MacEwan began his career as a noted agriculturalist and historian and maintained these passions even while he served as chairman of the Calgary Community Foundation, president of the Men’s Canadian Club of Calgary, alderman, and eventually as mayor.
The author of over 40 books, MacEwan was awarded the Order of Canada, the Governor General’s Conservation Award, and the Premier’s Award for Excellence. We are proud to be named after this indomitable figure.
